Keep reading to know the rest of this story plus take a look at the photos and Robson Rocha Costa video below.

The young Robson Rocha Costa was born in Rio de Janeiro on June 1st, 1986.

His parents are Valter and Santa Marli Costa, he also had a young 12 year old brother who is a goalkeeper at his local team in Foz do Iguau.

Robson was a great futsal player in The Parana Sporting Athletic Club or as it is also known in Brazil, futsal player.

He won the 2004 Australian under 17 championship, with the Parana National Team.

On Saturday March 8th, 2010 Futsal teams Palmeiras Jundiai and Guarapuava Sporting Club were playing a friendly match in Guarapuava, Parana.

Everything was going great, but then tragedy struck the match.

It seems untrue as we describe it, but sadly this was an event that cost the life of a young, caring and talented young man.

Robson Rocha Costa was going after the ball but when he tried to take the ball away from another player’s feet, he bent down on his legs and a piece of floor plank struck his legs and part of his intestines.

As Robson started to scream in pain, his fellow futsal player got to him, they had no idea what they were about to see, nor did any of the spectators and reporters who were in absolute shock.

"I saw him fall and scream a lot, but I did not immediately understand what had happened.

When I got closer and could see something, I felt desperate," said the player Carlinhos, of Palmeiras Jundiai futsal team.

"Never before in my life as a sportsman, a coach and a teacher of this sport have I seen anything this stupid.

It’s incredible that a plank of wood comes out of the floor, enters a sportsman’s body and kills him, It’s clear that no one in their right mind could have imagined this type of fatality, but the scene was terrible," said radio analyst and former football coach Bedeu Fernandes.

Robson was immediately taken to Guarapuava Hospitals Saint Vincent de Paul where he went into a four hour surgery, but unfortunately they couldn’t save him.

Robson Rocha Costa was pronounced dead at age 23, his cause of death was internal hemorrhage or hemorrhagic shock caused by a 45 cm long and 6cm wide fragment of wood that went into his right thigh close to his hip and went up to his abdomen piercing his intestine.

"His body was seriously injured by that fragment of the floor, which caused a very large and profuse hemorrhage, besides a wound in the internal part of the intestine,"? said Guarapuava Hospital’s doctor Carlos Consalte.

Robson was buried on Monday at Park Falls in Foz do Iguau, where his family lives, the expenses were covered by his team; as well as friends and fans were a constant support to Robsons family.

In most recent news we heard that Robsons family is ‘considering taking legal action against the team and the Athletic Sports Hall who is responsible for the court’s maintenance’, this will be decided by the family, that was what Valter Costa Robsons father said.

The hospital sent the piece of wood to the Costa family, but police are trying to recover it in order to start an investigation, it appears that those responsible for the court’s maintenance can be charged with manslaughter, negligence or malpractice, if the court was in bad shape they wouldnt have let the game or any other take place.

Robson was due to leave for Japan in July to start his five year contract with a club in a Tokyo Futsal team, he had been in Japan for nine months in 2008, he was also going to get married to his long time girlfriend pretty soon too.

Our most sincere condolences to his family, friends and fans, our prayers and thoughts are with you in this difficult time.
