The Pawtucket Family YMCA's Healthy Kids Weekend will run from today through Sunday.The weekend will kick off at 8 p.m.
today with a 40-hour Futsal soccer game that's expected to draw a minimum of 400 participants and be the longest ever continuous match, according to Sean Cassidy, senior director of the Family YMCA, which is located at 20 Summer St.
Players from an adult league and members of various church groups have registered already to play in the game, but other people interested in taking part should contact Cassidy at 401-727-7900.A 5K fun run and walk will be held Saturday from 9 a.m.
Participants will start at the YMCA and travel along the Blackstone River to the Varieur Elementary School, 486 Pleasant St., and return to 20 Summer St.The event will be a fundraiser for the YMCA's Support a Child Fund, which offers financial assistance to local families for 'Y' programs.
All participants will receive a Pawtucket Family YMCA T-shirt for raising minimum pledges, which are $25 for members; $50 for a member family.
Pledge sheets are available at the Y.On Sunday, the YMCA will begin Splash Week, which runs through the end of school vacation on April 24.
The Y will offer free swim lessons to anyone in the community so they can improve their skills.
